Quiksilver Xplosive Boardshorts
Thirty years of R&D have culminated in the Reactor boardshort, the world’s first compression taped boardshort. Compression garments and compression taping have been used in elite level sports for years – athletics, football, swimming – and in 2003 Quiksilver launched the Superbank boardie, the first boardshort to incorporate an internal compression garment. But the Reactor short is the first time compression garments and compression taping have been brought together to improve surfing performance.
The Reactor X boardshort features three components – the Diamond Dobby stretch boardshort, the Quiksilver Xplosive Technology compression garment stitched inside, and the Quiksilver Xplosive Technology performance taping also inside the shorts. While the Diamond Dobby fabric offers unparalleled stretch and the compression shorts offer endurance and recovery benefits, it’s the compression taping inside the short where the real magic happens.
The Quiksilver Xplosive Technology compression taping inside the Reactor has been scientifically contoured around the muscles that drive surfing. The elastic banding works like a slingshot, aligning muscles so they are perfectly placed for the twisting and driving motions involved in surfing. The banding is designed to centralise a surfer’s core over the sweet spot of their surfboard, encouraging the centre of gravity back to where it should be. While the Reactor short has been designed in conjunction with sports scientists, they are first and foremost about surfing. The result is greater amplitude and flair in a surfer’s turns, and more seamless transition between them – ergo, better surfing.
Much like elite sprinters, swimmers and track and field athletes, compression taping and the incremental performance benefits is set to become industry standard for surfing athletes in coming years.
